Woman drowns in Negros river

BACOLOD CITY – The decomposing body of a woman was retrieved on Sunday, September 17, two days after she drowned in a river in Sitio Kabalantianan, Barangay Amontay, Binalbagan, Negros Occidental on Friday, September 15.

Police identified the victim as Semme Olveros, 57, of Barangay Amontay.

Police Lt. Glen Portunes, deputy chief of the Binalbagan Municipal Police Station, said the victim, along with her son and grandson, were crossing the river when she slipped and hit her head on a rock.

She fell unconscious and was swept away by the strong river current.

Portunes said the victim’s companions failed to call for help as houses were far from the river.

She was bloated when found in Hacienda Agustine, Barangay Bagroy,  a kilometer away from Barangay Amontay, according to Portunes.
