Senate OKs reso commending DLSZ Strings for twin European music awards


The Senate has adopted a resolution congratulating the De La Salle Santiago Zobel (DLSZ) Strings Ensemble for winning two awards at music festivals held in Europe in July 2023.

Senate Resolution No. 758, filed by Senate deputy minority leader Risa Hontiveros, congratulated the 34 young musicians who represented the Philippines in the international stage. 

 

“Mr. President, it is with great joy and pride that I stand here today to sponsor Senate Resolution 758 congratulating the De La Salle Zobel Strings Ensemble for their outstanding performances in two international youth festivals in Europe last July,” Hontiveros said in her sponsorship speech. 

 

The group, last July 1, the group received an outstanding rating winning them the 4th place at the 15th Summa Cum Laude (SCL) International Youth Music Festival in Vienna, Austria.

 

They bested other youth ensembles from Australia, Austria, Canada, China, Italy, Puerto Rico, Singapore, Taipei, Norway, Netherlands, Spain, and the USA. 

 

A week later the team won the gold award at the 2023 Bratislava Youth Music Festival Competition at the Slovak Radio Concert Hall in Slovakia. 

 

DLSZ Strings is composed of 34 outstanding young kids, led the Senate’s singing of the national anthem and serenaded senators with their concert piece which is a medley of Filipino Songs on Monday.

 

“I am extremely honored to sponsor our Senate resolution which celebrates these young musicians who brought pride and honor to our beloved Philippines,” Hontiveros said. 

 

“They deserve to be recognized for their countless hours of training, talent, and amazing dedication to their craft,” she added. 

 

Senate President Juan Miguel “Migz” Zubiri also showed his appreciation for members of the DLSZ Strings.

 

“La Salle-Zobel is a very good school. I grew up in Alabang and most of my friends are from La Salle-Zobel and they are very good people,” Zubiri said.
