PH Red Cross distributes more wheelchairs to mobility-impaired Filipinos
Gordon tells beneficiaries to 'aim high, you have the freedom to move again'
The Philippine Red Cross (PRC) joined forces with the Rotary Club (RC) of Manila 101 and the Wheelchair Foundation to distribute the second batch of wheelchairs to 40 mobility-impaired Filipinos in Cavite.

With the theme "Imagine Rotary, Create Hope: Mobility for Dignity," the initiative aims to empower and improve the quality of life of wheelchair recipients on Thursday, Sept. 13 from Metro Manila, Rizal, Cavite, and Occidental Mindoro.
The first batch of wheelchairs was handed to mobility-impaired and senior citizen Filipinos last Sept. 9.

"We at the Philippine Red Cross lift people up. We don't reach out because the one who reaches out has a higher hand than the one who receives it,” Gordon said in a mix of English and Filipino to the wheelchair beneficiaries last Sept. 9.
“Instead, we lift people. We raise them up. We uplift human dignity,” he added.
Gordon also highlighted the importance of a wheelchair and how it provides inclusion and allows people with mobility limitations to be productive and financially independent.
"The gift of a wheelchair is something that you must cherish. You have been given once again the capability of moving. Freedom,” he said.
“When you are given something like this, think about what you can do. Aim high. Learn new skills. Be ambitious. It is better to help those who help themselves,” he added.
Meanwhile, PRC Secretary-General Dr. Gwen Pang underscored that “each wheelchair provides not only physical mobility but also emotional and psychological support.”
“Let us remember the impact a simple act of kindness can have in the lives of those having mobility challenges,” she said.
“The PRC, Rotary Club, and Wheelchair Foundation are changing lives one wheelchair at a time and making our world more inclusive and more accessible for all," she added.
Rotary District 5170 District Governor Richard Flanders attended the event and expressed gratitude to the PRC for facilitating the transportation of the donated wheelchairs to the country and bringing people who need mobility assistance.
Apart from key attendees from the PRC and Rotary Club, RC members, Imus, Cavite Councilor Jelyn Maliksi, and former Imus, Cavite Mayor Manny Maliksi also supported the distribution.
The organizations will also distribute wheelchairs in Occidental Mindoro before September ends.
