PAGASA observes 'dangerous' heat indices in 16 areas


Sixteen areas in the Philippines sizzled with a "dangerous" heat index on Monday, Sept. 18, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said.

PAGASA recorded the highest heat index on Sept. 18 in Pili, Camarines Sur with a temperature of 46°C.

Among the sixteen locations under the "dangerous" heat index include Dagupan City, Pangasinan (43°C); Aparri, Cagayan (42°C); Tuguegarao City, Cagayan (43°C); Clark Airport (DMIA), Pampanga (42°C); San Jose, Occidental Mindoro (42°C);  Legazpi City, Albay (44°C); Virac (Synop), Catanduanes (42°C); Masbate City, Masbate (42°C); Catarman, Northern Samar (43°C); Catbalogan, Western Samar (43°C); Tacloban City, Leyte (42°C); Borongan, Eastern Samar (44°C); Guiuan, Eastern Samar, (42°C); Maasin, Southern Leyte, (42°C); and Dipolog, Zamboanga Del Norte (43°C), as per PAGASA.

PAGASA also warned that heat indices between 42°C and 51°C can cause "heat cramps, heat exhaustion, or heat stroke with continued sun exposure."

No heat index under danger level was recorded in Metro Manila. (Lizst Torres Abello)
