LEGAZPI CITY, Albay – Candidates in the barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan elections here signed a covenant for peaceful, safe, and orderly polls during the interfaith prayer and forum at SM City-Legazpi on Monday, September 18.
Led by the Commission on Elections-Legazpi and the Philippine National Police (PNP), the gathering was participated in by candidates from the 70 barangays here.
CANDIDATES in the barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan elections in Legazpi City signed a covenant for a peaceful, orderly, and honest elections during the interfaith prayer and candidates forum at SM City Legazpi on Monday, September 18.
Connie del Castillo, Comelec-Legazpi election supervisor, briefed candidates on the rules in the BSKE.
Del Castillo urged them to understand and follow the guidelines for orderly elections in October.
Albay Police Provincial Office director Police Col. Fernando Cunanan challenged candidates to avoid violence, defamation, intimidation, spreading false information, and fraud and make the elections honest.
Cunanan expects a peaceful and orderly BSKE here due to the turnout in the forum.
Police Lt. Col. Ray Anthony Villanueva, officer-in-charge of the Legazpi City police, thanked candidates for attending the event and vowing a peaceful electoral exercise.
Del Castillo disclosed that six barangays here are under orange category or considered as with serious threats.
She did not identify these barangays but she said additional police personnel will deployed to these areas to maintain peace and order.
No premature campaigning was reported here so far.
