With their backcourt saddled by manpower woes following the injury of Jeremiah Gray and the uncertainty surrounding LA Tenorio's fitness to be able to return, the Kings pulled the trigger on tapping Ahanmisi whose contract expired with Converge last June.

Ahanmisi became an unrestricted free agent as contract extension talks with the FiberXers fell apart after a long back-and-forth negotiation.

The acquisition of the 6-foot-2 combo guard certainly adds depth to the Kings as he forms a dreaded backcourt trio along with Scottie Thompson and Stanley Pringle. 

His range also complements and creates space for Ginebra twin towers Japeth Aguilar and Christian Standhardinger to operate inside the paint.

On top of that, Ginebra seemed to have gotten another gem who is close to his prime after averaging career numbers of 19.9 points, 6.6 rebounds, 3.1 assists, and 1.2 steals as one of Converge’s top guns in the last 2023 PBA Governors’ Cup.

Ahanmisi’s signing also came in the heels of Converge drafting 6-foot-4 guard Schonny Winston – a move seen as a way for the FiberXers to fill in the void left by their former star.
