The Commission on Elections (Comelec) together with the San Juan City local government inaugurated on Monday, Sept. 18, the new Comelec National Capital Region Office.
The inauguration was led by Comelec Chairman George Garcia, San Juan City Mayor Francis Zamora, San Juan City Rep. Bel Zamora, and other city government officials and other poll officials.
The four-story building located at the G1 Building in Greenhills is one of the biggest and newest local government facilities in the city with a total size of 3,000 square meters. It will also house other government agencies such as the San Juan Bureau of Fire and the Brgy. Greenhills Barangay Hall. It also has a wooden basketball court on the fourth floor and an open deck with garden.
The Comelec Office is located on the third floor while the agency's former office was situated in Palacio del Gobernador in Intramuros, Manila.
Napakamakabago at nandito pa sa puso ng San Juan sa Greenhills (In the Philippines, a lot of local Comelec offices do not have a home. Some are just located under stairways, some have leaking CRs, while others are makeshift only. This is truly heartbreaking. That's the reason why the whole management of Comelec was happy when we learned that the transfer of our regional office here in San Juan is in full swing. Former Cong. Ronny Zamora, their father, was the one who made this possible. We are situated here in the heart of NCR and the LGU is very helpful and welcoming. The home which we all have longed for in NCR is finally here. The office is very modern and is located in Greenhills which is the heart of San Juan)," Garcia said.
“This is an honor for us of seeing major government agencies transferring to the city," Zamora said.
"Dahil nasa geographic center ito ng Metro Manila, magiging madali po para sa ating mamamayan lalo pag filing certificates of candidacy (Because your new office is located in the geographic center of Metro Manila, it will now be easier for our citizens to receive your services especially when it comes to the filing of certificates of candidacy)," he added.
