Bacoor LGU, private sector volunteers, conduct coastal cleanup


CAVITE – The local government unit (LGU) of Bacoor participated in the International Coastal Clean-Up Drive on Saturday, Sept. 16.

The City Environment and Natural Resources (CENRO) led a clean-up drive in Barangay Maliksi III, which aims to remove trash from beaches and other water bodies and raise awareness about the magnitude of marine debris issues.

Present during the opening program were Cavite 2nd District Rep. Lani Mercado-Revilla, Vice Mayor Rowena Bautista-Mendiola, and other local officials.

“Araw-araw, paggising ho natin, nakikita naman ho natin eh, na nasa labas nang ating mga tahanan, may basura, may plastic. Sabihin man natin na inaagos pa ito nang dagat papunta rito (Every day, we see the trash and plastic outside our homes. We might say that these are carried away by the sea and end up here), it is our duty,” Mercado-Revilla said during her speech streamed live through Facebook.

“Tayo ang may responsibilidad sa kalinisan ng ating kapaligiran (We are responsible for the cleanliness of our environment.”

The congresswoman also mentioned that the cleanup drive serves as an opening event for this year’s Bacoor Festival, celebrating the city’s 352nd founding anniversary.

Aside from city government employees, private sector volunteers and socio-civic groups also participated in the clean-up drive.
