The subsidy was provided for under City Ordinance No. 1003 authored by Councilor Em Ang which grants fuel subsidies to all tricycle-for-hires with an existing valid franchise issued by the city government.
The ordinance which was approved in August 2022 covers at least 5,000 tricycle drivers here.
Mayor Alfredo Abelardo “Albee” Benitez led the distribution of fuel assistance to 20 tricycle drivers at the Mayor’s Office at the Bacolod City Government Center (BCGC) on September 13 in the presence of Ang and Councilor Israel Salanga.
Ang said the distribution of the subsidy was delayed due to processing and lack of funds.
There are five tricycle operators and driver associations that have applied for the subsidy.
Drivers should comply with all the requirements set by the Commission on Audit (COA) to enable them to avail of assistance.
