Humid weather in Metro Manila, rest of PH; ITCZ to affect Mindanao
Hot and humid weather conditions will prevail in Metro Manila, the rest of Luzon, and Visayas with chances of scattered rain showers, lightning, and thunder at night due to localized thunderstorms, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said on Sunday, Sept. 17.

While the southwest monsoon or "habagat" has slightly weakened, PAGASA observed cloud clusters in the southern portion of the country --- particularly in Mindanao --- which was said to be associated with the Intertropical Convergence Zone (ITCZ).
"Makikita natin dito sa ating latest satellite images itong mga kaulapan sa southern portion ng ating bansa partikular na sa Mindanao area (We can see in our latest satellite images the cloud clusters in the southern portion of our country particularly in Mindanao),” PAGASA weather specialist Daniel James E. Villamil said.
“Itong mga kaulapan na ito ay associated sa ating Intertropical Convergence Zone o ITCZ (These cloud clusters are associated with our Intertropical Convergence Zone or ITCZ),” he added.
Villamil explained that the ITCZ occurs when the winds in the Northern and Southern Hemisphere come together causing the development of thunderstorms.
"Ito yung pagsasalubong ng hangin mula sa Northern at Southern Hemisphere kaya for the next 24 hours ay patuloy tayong makararanas ng maulap na kalangitan, may mga kalat-kalat na pag-ulan, pagkulog, at pagkidlat sa bahagi ng Mindanao. (This is the trading of winds from the Northern and Southern Hemisphere that is why for the next 24 hours, we will experience cloudy skies with scattered rain showers, thunder, and lightning in Mindanao)," Villamil said.
For the next three days, hot and humid weather conditions will be experienced in Luzon and Visayas with chances of thunderstorms in the afternoon and night while
in Mindanao, PAGASA said cloudy weather will prevail with rain showers due to the ITCZ.
PAGASA said there is also no Low Pressure Area (LPA) that is being monitored inside and outside the Philippine area of responsibility (PAR) that may develop into a typhoon in the following days. (Lizst Torres Abello)
