British Ambassador to the Philippines Laure Beaufils has expressed concern over the killing of a lawyer in Abra.
In a statement on X (formerly Twitter), Beaufils urged the Philippine authorities to ensure that perpetrators are brought to justice and that a safe environment for all lawyer are created.
“Very concerned about the killing of Atty. Ma. Saniata Liwliwa Gonzales Alzate in Abra,” she said.
Alzate was gunned down by two men onboard a motorcycle while she was in her car parked outside her house on Thursday, Sep. 14, in Bangued, police said, adding that eight cartridge cases were recovered from the crime scene.
“We extend our deepest sympathies to her family,” she added.
During her first meeting with who was then President-elect Marcos, Beaufils said she and Marcos discussed human rights issues.
