Bacolod-Silay Airport Police Station accommodates stranded passengers
BACOLOD CITY – The Bacolod-Silay Airport Police Station has initiated a project that would ease the burden of stranded passengers at the airport in Silay City, Negros Occidental.
Police Major Deejay Domingo, chief of the Bacolod-Silay Airport Police Station of the Philippine National Police- Aviation Security Group, said they have observed that stranded passengers would usually sleep uncomfortably at the waiting area.

Thus, Domingo said, they officially launched “Sleepover sa Paliparan Project” in 2021 to cater the needs of stranded passengers with free accommodation, food, and Very Important Person assistance on their flight.
He said they give priority to Persons with Disabilities (PWDs), pregnant women, children, and elderly people.
Domingo said the project was supposed to be launched in 2019 but it was put on hold due to lack of funding and the Covid-19 pandemic.
Two years later, the project materialized through the help of various stakeholders.
Domingo said the objective of this project is to at least give stranded passengers a comfortable place to stay while waiting for their flights.
“Most of them are stranded overnight, or a maximum of two days,” he added.
Domingo said since the police station could not accommodate all stranded passengers, they prioritized those who really need special assistance.
He said that initially, they just occupied the conference room of the police station. But through the help of some people, they were able to build two nipa huts where stranded passengers can stay.
As much as they want to accommodate everyone, Domingo said the police station has no space to put up more nipa huts to cater to other stranded passengers.
He said that only limited number of individuals can be accommodated, but they are happy to help ease their burden while waiting for their flight.
