PCG tows beached landing craft off Coron Island

A landing craft tank that ran aground off Coron Island in Palawan on Thursday afternoon, Sept. 14, was finally towed by the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG).

LCT Lady Alina was maneuvered away from the shallow waters and anchored in the vicinity of Coron Island at around 8 a.m. Friday, Sept. 15.

“The PCG team then inspected the incident area for possible traces of oil spill and yielded a negative result,” PCG spokesperson Rear Adm. Armando Balilo said.

LCT Lady Alina hit shallow waters off Coron Island near Cadis Point around 3:30 p.m. Thursday due to a “miscalculation” of the on-duty lookout as there was zero visibility in the area while they were sailing.

The crew of the landing craft tank added that they did not see the reef that they hit on their global positioning system (GPS).

Meanwhile, all 17 crew members of the vessel were rescued and in good physical condition, the Balilo noted.
