President Marcos' trip to Singapore is nothing to sneeze at, despite the criticism it is receiving.
House Speaker Martin Romualdez has explained the significance of the trip, which included Marcos' attendance to the 10th Asian Summit.
Romualdez, who accompanied Marcos, said the President’s participation to the summit is “a significant step toward forging a sustainable future for the Philippines".
He further said that it signifies a resolute commitment to elevate the Philippines as a prime investment destination, particularly in the booming renewable energy sector.
“Through his (President Marcos’) determined efforts, Singaporean businesses are being urged to view our nation as a primary investment destination, particularly in the renewable energy sector. The anticipated influx of investments in this field can potentially lead to greener energy solutions and more affordable electricity rates for Filipinos,” Romualdez said.
The Speaker noted that this engagement can boost the country's economy, as the strengthened ties with Singapore can create more job opportunities across various sectors, directly benefiting Filipinos.
“Emphasizing our commitment to infrastructure development through the 8-Point Socioeconomic Agenda, we anticipate a marked improvement in our public facilities, roads, and overall services...Such initiatives will undoubtedly enhance the day-to-day lives of Filipinos, fostering ease in transportation, trade, and access to essential services,” he added.
Romualdez underscored that the President's Singapore trip goes beyond diplomacy as it "stands as a testament to the Philippine government's unwavering commitment to ensuring a sustainable, prosperous, and bright future for every Filipino".
“Together, with our international partners like Singapore, we remain committed to uplifting the lives of our citizens and driving our nation towards greater heights,” said the leader of the 311-strong House of Representatives.
Marcos and his delegation left for Singapore on Wednesday, Sept. 13, on the Chief Executive's 66th birthday.
While in Singapore, Marcos will also attend the Singapore Formula 1 (F1) Grand Prix 2023 this weekend. This is upon the invitation of Singaporean Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loon.
