ACT Teachers Party-list Rep. France Castro says she respects the Office of the Vice President (OVP), but not Vice President Sara Duterte.
"Ang sagot ko lang dyan, the feeling is mutual, at hindi siya karespe-respeto rin (My answer to that is, the feeling is mutual, and she doesn't command respect also)," Castro said in a virtual press conference Friday, Sept. 15.
Castro was asked to respond to an earlier statement from Duterte, who said that she had "no respect" for the House deputy minority leader, as well as minority Senator Risa Hontiveros.
Castro and Hontiveros have assailed the Vice President for her alleged spending of P125 million worth of confidential funds in 19 days last year. The funds reportedly emanated from the Office of the President (OP).
"Well ah siguro the feeling is mutual, pero syempre nirerespeto natin yung Office of the Vice President (Wel lI guess the feeling is mutual, but of course we respect the Office of the Vice President)," Castro said of Duterte.
"Kung talagang may respeto siya sa sarili niya, respetuhin niya rin yung mga dapat na itinanong namin, di ba? At pagpapaliwanag sana doon sa sinasabi niya," added the Makabayan solon.
(If she really has self-respect, she should respect the questions that we were supposed to ask. She should explain what she has been saying.)
Castro and the rest of the Makabayan bloc faced Duterte at the House of Representatives during the OVP's budget hearing earlier this month. However, the hearing was terminated early by the Committee on Appropriations due to parliamentary courtesy.
As such, the militant solons didn't get the chance to grill the lady official on the subject of the 2022 confidential funds.
"So sana ito yung sagutin niya, hindi yung mga kung anu-anong pinagsasasabi niya outside the Congress. So may time and venue kung dapat sana ay nasagot yung mga tanong namin kaugnay nitong mga tinatanong natin on confidential funds," Castro said.
(Sp she should answer this instead of the things she is saying outside of Congress. There was a time and venue on the matter of confidential funds, if only she answered our questions.)
