CEBU CITY – The Department of Social Welfare and Development-Central Visayas (DSWD-7) will distribute cash assistance amounting to P1.3 million to micro rice retailers who were affected by the enforcement of the rice price cap.
The DSWD-7 announced on Wednesday, September 13, that there will be 87 beneficiaries that will receive the assistance during the simultaneous payout on Thursday, September 14.
The DSWD-7 said there are 63 beneficiaries in Negros Oriental, 17 in Cebu, six in Bohol, and one in Siquijor.
“In relation to Executive Order No. 39, Series of 2023, that declares the standard rice price ceiling, the DSWD launched its Sustainable Livelihood Program-Cash Assistance Program for rice retailers. This aims to help the micro rice retailers affected by the price cap,” the DSWD-7 said in a statement.
The DSWD-7 said each eligible recipient will receive a one-time financial assistance of P15,000.
It has partnered with the Department of Trade Industry for the implementation of the cash assistance program.
The DTI will come up with the list of affected micro rice retailers and will ensure that the retailers listed are verified and accurate, the DSWD-7 said.
