BACOLOD CITY – A 93-year-old woman was injured in a fire that broke out in a residential area in Sitio Dacutan Daku Zone 8, Barangay Mambulac, Silay City, Negros Occidental on Thursday, September 14.
Senior Insp. Jovelyn Zamar, city fire marshal, said the victim sustained multiple abrasions in her right arm and was taken to the Corazon Locsin Montelibano Memorial Regional Hospital (CLMMRH) here.
Initial report from the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) said 24 houses were razed and seven were partially damaged.
Zamar said they received the fire call at 1:59 a.m.
Arson investigators have yet to determine the cause of fire that left an estimated P375,000 in damage.
Data from the city government said the blaze affected 35 families or 114 individuals who are temporarily sheltered at the barangay hall.
Mayor Joedith Gallego said the city government has released financial assistance to the fire victims on top of the in-kind assistance.
Gallego said that P15,000 was given to those with totally damaged and P10,000 to those with partially damaged houses.
