Reigning champion National University headlines a cast of top UAAP and NCAA teams who will duke it out in the 2023 Shakey's Super League (SSL) Pre-season Championship which fires off Saturday, Sept. 16, at the FilOil EcoOil Centre in San Juan City.

The Lady Bulldogs, who swept their way to clinching the inaugural honors last year, lead the 16-team squad featuring bets from the UAAP and NCAA as appetizers for their mother leagues in the upcoming collegiate volleyball season.
Season 1 MVP Alyssa Solomon with former UAAP Rookie-MVP Mhicaela Belen are expected to spearhead NU under the tutelage of returning mentor Norman Miguel.
Shakey’s Pizza Asia Ventures Inc. President Vic Gregorio said holding such tournaments, like the previous secondary meet and this pre-season tilt, could help shape the future of volleyball in the country by honing grassroots talents and giving them a platform to shine.
“Shakey’s has been part of collegiate volleyball since 2005, and we keep thriving for the betterment of the sport here in the country,“ Gregorio said on Thursday, Sept. 14, at Shakey’s Parlor in Malate, Manila.
"That's also our plan, which is to invite colleges from different provinces to join, for them to bolster their skills and at the same time showcase their talents," he added.
NU leads Pool A with the San Sebastian College-Recoletos, Jose Rizal U and the souped-up University of the East bannered by super rookie Casiey Dongallo, who won the MVP plum in the Shakey’s Girls Volleyball Invitational League (GVIL) national high school tournament this summer.
SSL National Invitationals runner-up Adamson spearheads Pool B with Arellano U, Lyceum of the Philippines U and San Beda U while Pool C has reigning NCAA champion College of St. Benilde, University of Santo Tomas, Colegio de San Juan de Letran and University of Perpetual Help System Dalta.
Completing the cast are Ateneo, under new coach Sergio Veloso, Far Eastern U, Mapua and Emilio Aguinaldo College in Pool D.
Only reigning UAAP and SSL National Invitationals champion La Salle, which finished runner-up to NU last year in the pre-season, and the University of the Philippines are out of the picture this time after a complete attendance from all the UAAP and NCAA schools in Season 1.
