Abra governor condemns murder of lawyer


Abra Gov. Dominic B. Valera on Friday, September 15, condemned the murder of Atty. Maria Saniata Liwliwa Gonzales Alzate.

“Our deepest and sincerest condolences to the bereaved family of Atty. Maria Saniata Liwliwa Gonzales Alzate,” Valera said in a Facebook post.

“We strongly condemn the merciless killing of Atty. Ma. Saniata Liwliwa Gonzales Alzate, a strong-willed lawyer, a defender of those in need, and a friend to many, who was shot to death multiple times by men who are yet to be identified,” he said. “I urge the law enforcers for the speedy and swift investigation of the killing of Atty. Alzate and for the immediate resolution of this case.”

“Dawatek iti amin nga Abreño ti tulongyo iti pannakabigbig kadagiti akin aramid iti daytoy nakakaskas-ang a napasamak kenni Atty. Alzate (We ask the people of Abra to help unmask the killers of Atty. Alzate),” Valera said. “Let us bring these perpetrators to justice. Let us make a strong stand against this violence that threatens our goal of a peace-loving Abra.”

The Abra Police Provincial Office on Friday vowed a thorough investigation on the killing of Alzate on Thursday, September 14.

Abra PPO chief Police Col. Froiland Lopez also condemned the murder of Alzate.

“We express our highest condemnation to the killing of Atty. Maria Saniata Liwliwa 'Ling-Ling' Gonzales Alzate, one of the renown lawyers of Abra this afternoon,” Lopez said in a Facebook post. “We also convey our condolences to the bereaved family and assure them and the public of an expedite investigation to determine those responsible for the incident. Further, we call on the public to provide us with relevant information that would assist us in our investigation,” he added.

Investigation said the victim was gunned down by two men onboard a motorcycle while she was in her car parked outside her house. The suspects fled and the victim was taken to a hospital where she was declared dead.
