RIZAL, Cagayan – The remains of a New People’s Army amazon who died during a recent typhoon was unearthed in this town on September 12.
The 17th Infantry Battalion of the 502nd Infantry Brigade and the police discovered the body of Brenda Antonio, alias “Michelle,” an Agta resident of Barangay Peru, Lasam, this province.
A former colleague reported to troops that a comrade died when a tree collapsed and struck her at the height of a typhoon here.
Troops went to the area and recovered her remains abandoned by comrades from the Cagayan Provincial Committee of the Cagayan Valley Regional Committee of the Communist Party of the Philippines-NPA.
Also unearthed were an M-16 rifle and ammunition.
Antonio was enticed to join the NPA after she was promised a good life.
Lt. Col. Oliver C. Logan, 17th IB commanding officer, said the abandonment of Antonio’s body is proof that the communist movement does not value the humanity of their comrades.
Brig. Gen. Eugene Mata, commander of the 502nd Infantry Brigade, called on the remaining NPA members to junk the false principle of communism and return to the government fold.
