No fuel subsidy released yet, LTFRB asks beneficiaries for a little patience

Beneficiaries of the government’s fuel subsidy program for the transport sector will have to wait for a little more time before they would receive the cash assistance, the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulator Board (LTFRB) said on Wednesday, Sept. 13.

LTFRB Executive Director Robert Peig said they have already coordinated with the Land Bank of the Philippines even before the LTFRB announcement that the start of the release of fuel subsidy would be on Sept. 13.

“We have an existing coordination with Land Bank and their commitment is that they will immediately process the list that we submitted,” said Peig. 

Based on the LTFRB data, around 1.36 million beneficiaries would be receiving the one-time cash assistance—280,000 of them are PUVs; 930,00 are tricycle operators while 150,000 are delivery service riders.

The LTFRB will facilitate the processing of the fuel subsidy for around 280,000 PUV beneficiaries while the local government units (LGUS) and the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) will take charge of the 930,000 tricycle operators across the country. The Department of Trade and Industry and the Department of Information and Communications Technology, on the other hand, will process the assistance for the 150,000 delivery riders.

Of the 280,000 PUV beneficiaries, Peig said they have already submitted the list of around 25,000 beneficiaries and additional 22,000 more will be submitted to the Land Bank within Sept. 13. The list includes beneficiaries from Metro Manila and other parts of the country.

Peig asked for understanding for the delay, especially that a number of beneficiaries have already checked their accounts where the cash assistance would be deposited—and found nothing.

“There are a lot of accounts that the Land Bank would be processing but they committed that they will process them all in the fastest possible way,” said Peig. 

The LTFRB earlier announced that it would begin the fuel subsidy distribution on Wednesday, Sept. 13.

The beneficiaries include operators of the passenger jeepneys (PUJs), UV Express, mini-buses, public utility buses (PUBs), Filcabs, shuttle services, taxis, tourist transport services, school transport services, and Transportation Network Vehicle Services (TNVS).

Under the guideline, a total of P10,000 one-time cash assistance will be given to each operator of PUJs and UVEs while P6,500 for each operator of other PUVs. Each delivery rider will receive P1,200 while tricycle operators would receive P1,000.

Guadiz earlier explained that the amount of the fuel subsidy depends on the consumption of fuel—higher for vehicles that consume more petroleum products.
