The Bacolod mayor said this activity will continue since garbage is one of the reasons of flooding here. The collected garbage was taken by IPM for disposal, he added.
Another coastal cleanup drive will be held in Barangay Singcang-Airport on September 16, Benitez said.
Aside from this, Benitez said that the City Health Office also conducted a dental mission.
Benitez wished the President on his birth anniversary that he may have good health to face all the challenges, the wisdom, and guidance of the Lord to be able to perform and govern effectively.
Meanwhile, about 200 stakeholders, including cash-for-work program recipients, members of various fisherfolk associations, purok presidents, and tanods from Barangays Sampinit, Poblacion, and Calumangan in Bago City, Negros Occidental joined the mangrove planting and coastal cleanup in Purok Batad, Barangay Sampinit.
The activity was initiated by the city government, through the City Environment Management Office (CEMO), as part of the “bayanihan” (community cooperation) efforts in celebration of the President’s birthday.
They planted some 4,000 mangrove propagules and collected 15 sacks of residual waste.
