Melo grateful for FIBA World Cup experience in Manila

NBA legend Carmelo Anthony has nothing but love for the warm reception he has experienced in the recent 2023 FIBA Basketball World Cup that the country hosted.

The former USA forward expressed his gratitude for his memorable visit to the country as a global ambassador of the tournament along with international basketball stars Pau Gasol of Spain, Luis Scola of Argentina and WNBA future Hall of Famer Sue Bird.

“Manila, thank you for your hospitality and making us feel at home. It’s an honor to be a FIBA Ambassador alongside Pau Gasol, Luis Scola and Sue Bird,” said Anthony on his Instagram post on Tuesday, Sept. 12.

Witnessing how the basketball-crazed local fans supported the tournament particularly during its final phase, Anthony knows it has been a great run for the World Cup these past three weeks.

“Basketball is one of the greatest global sports in the world, and this past week proved it!” he said.

Anthony, 39, played for Team USA in the 2006 World Cup with superstar teammates that include LeBron James, Chris Paul and Dwyane Wade. The squad finished with the bronze medal after succumbing to Greece, 101-95, in Saitama, Japan.
