Grandmother urges son-in-law to surrender after beating his own daughter to death
A 53-year-old grandmother urged her son-in-law to surrender to police after beating his seven-year-old daughter to death in Tondo on Aug. 18.
The victim's grandmother Margarita Napacia also confirmed that his son-in-law, Carlo Danni Lloren, is a drug addict.
"Nag da-drugs po talaga 'yan. Ang masasabi ko lang, sana sumuko na siya at harapin niya kung ano man ang ginawa niya sa anak niya (He is using drugs. All I can say is, I hope he surrenders and faces what he did to his daughter)," she said in a phone interview with the Manila Bulletin on Tuesday, Sept. 12.
She said that the suspect has blotter cases in their barangay for beating his wife and children who are seven and four years old.
"Matagal na po 'yang nambubugbog ng asawa at anak niya, hanggang sa umabot nang ganito na ang bata (seven-year-old) ay namatay na (He has been beating his wife and child for a long time, until it got to this point where the seven-year-old child died)," she added.
Margarita said that her granddaughter was buried at North Cemetery in Sta. Cruz on Sunday, Sept. 10.
Meanwhile, Margarita said that she wants to take custody of her four-year-old granddaughter as the child is also being abused by the father, but she said she does not have the authority.
She said she took her granddaughter to a hospital to have her examined but was prevented by hospital staff as she was not the child’s legal guardian.
"Kanina nga gusto kong ipa-check up sa hospital ‘yung bata, ang kaso hindi po ako tinanggap sa hospital kase wala raw po akong legal guardian na kasulatan, kaya hindi pa po ito nache-check up (I wanted to have the child checked up at the hospital, but I was not accepted at the hospital because they said I did not have a legal guardian document, so the child was still not checked up)," Margarita stated.
She said she was required to get a certification from the barangay as proof that she is the guardian of the child.
But she was still denied even after showing documents proving that the parents of the child have police cases.
The mother of the children is still in the Manila Police District (MPD) homicide section for investigation, while the suspect is nowhere to be found.
Meanwhile, in an interview with DZRH on Tuesday, Department of Social and Welfare and Development (DSWD) Secretary Rex Gatchalian said that after collecting details of the case, they will immediately proceed to get the child into their protective custody.
