A total of 935 policemen were dismissed from the service while almost 3,000 others were penalized for various offenses from Jan. 1, 2022 to Aug. 30 this year, the Philippine National Police (PNP) disclosed on Tuesday, Sept. 12.
PNP chief Gen. Benjamin Acorda, Jr. said the penalties imposed were based on the resolution of 4,082 cases as part of the disciplinary measures and internal cleansing in the police organization.
"The PNP is strengthening its Internal Disciplinary Mechanism and intensifies efforts in reiterating the Doctrine of Command Responsibility and Police Operational Procedures to every member on the ground. We are bringing across our message to the people that the PNP leadership strongly condemn any wrongdoing of its few misguided members,” said Acorda.
Aside from the dismissal of 935 cops, a total of 242 were also demoted while 1,850 others were suspended.
On the other hand, a total of 159 policemen were penalized by forfeiture of salary, 680 were reprimanded, others were sanctioned with withholding of privileges.
“This significant step underscores the PNP's unwavering vow to ensuring that its personnel adhere to the highest standards of professionalism and integrity,” said Acorda.
“It leaves a powerful note that those who engage in unlawful activities and misdemeanors will face the appropriate consequences, including dismissal from the service when necessary,” he added.
Acorda also emphasized the PNP's continuous cleaning up of its ranks and purging of few corrupt police officers, as there are more honorable policemen remaining.
