27 gun ban violators nabbed in Western Visayas


ILOILO CITY – Twenty-seven violators of the gun ban in the barangay elections next month were arrested in Western Visayas as of September 11.

The Police Regional Office (PRO)-6 said 25 of them were civilians. The two others are security guards.

“Sana magsilbing babala ito sa ating mga kababayan. Sana suportahan ng bawat isa ang ating kampanya para sa tagumpay ng parating na halalan (This should serve as a warning to our countrymen. Support the gun ban for a successful barangay elections),” said Police Brig. Gen. Sidney Villaflor, PRO-6 director.

Police Major Mary Grace Borio, PRO-6 spokesperson, said non-law enforcement entities, including private security agencies, must get certificates from the Commission on Elections to be exempted from the gun ban.

The Negros Occidental Police Provincial Office arrested eight violators, the Iloilo Police Provincial Office, five; the Iloilo City Police Office and the Capiz Police Provincial Office, four each, the Aklan Police Provincial Office, two, and the Regional Mobile Force Battalion (RFMB)-6, one.
