2 tanods killed in village patrol jeep crash


BATANGAS CITY – Two barangay tanods or watchmen died and 10 others were injured when their patrol jeep rammed into a tree on Sunday morning, September 10, in Sitio Tanlayag, Barangay San Miguel here.

The Batangas Police Provincial Office identified the fatalities as Teodoro Guico, 59, and Ariel Silva, 31, who died while undergoing treatment.

Injured were Noraida Deguito, 46; Mario Fatal, 44; Verino Alo, 52; Felix Magpantay, 48; Jayson Nunez, 36; Valeriana Alega, 42; Monchito Ebora, 42; Tranquilino Detorres, 45; Bryan Espeleta, 30, and Romeo Sarmiento, 56, driver of the vehicle.

Investigation said Sarmiento, 56, lost control of the vehicle with license plates SFZ-421 while traversing the downhill curved portion of the road. The patrol jeep swerved to the right and crashed into a tree. 

The injured were taken to two separate hospitals here. 

The victims, who were all tanods of Barangay San Miguel, were on their way to barangay hall when the accident happened.
