PAGASA monitors LPA off extreme N. Luzon; 'habagat' affects Mindanao
The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said on Monday, Sept. 11 that it continues to monitor the Low Pressure Area (LPA) off extreme Northern Luzon.

PAGASA weather specialist Benison Estareja said that the LPA inside the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) was last spotted 860 kilometers East Northeast of Extreme Northern Luzon.
“Base po sa ating analysis mababa pa rin ang tyansa nitong LPA na maging isang bagyo sa loob ng 24 hours. (Based on our analysis, the chance remains low for the LPA to develop into tropical cyclone within the next 24 hours), Estareja said.
Meanwhile, the trough of the LPA extension still brings rain showers in the Extreme Northern Luzon which will be continuously experienced until Sept. 12 in Batanes and Babuyan Groups of Island.
PAGASA noted that rain showers as early as noon in the area of Bicol Region and the east portion of mainland Luzon including Quezon province, Aurora, Isabela, and Cagayan are also expected.
In most of Luzon, PAGASA said that partly cloudy to cloudy skies are expected in the next few hours as well as localized thunderstorms that are not continuous and may last between one to two hours in huge portions of Palawan and huge portions of Northern Luzon including Cagayan Valley and Cordillera Region.
For Metro Manila, CALABARZON, and MIMAROPA, PAGASA said that partly cloudy to cloudy skies and localized thunderstorms that are not continuous and not considered direct effects of the LPA are expected on Sept. 12.
LPA to enhance ‘habagat’
PAGASA noted that the LPA that is being monitored may also enhance the southwest monsoon (habagat) that will bring rain showers in most of Luzon and Visayas from Sept. 13 to Sept. 14.
Meanwhile, PAGASA said the LPA in the east portion of Visayas outside PAR has been already dissolved while another LPA is being observed in the farther area of the Philippine archipelago which will not move close to or affect the country.
The southwest monsoon, PAGASA said, remains weak and affects Mindanao.
For the next 24 hours, weak rain showers that are not continuous are expected, PAGASA said.
In Visayas, localized thunderstorms will be experienced within the next few hours according to PAGASA.
In the next three days, PAGASA said the southwest monsoon may again bring rain showers in Luzon and Visayas.
There will be light to moderate and at times heavy rains which will possibly cause floods and landslides, PAGASA said.
On Sept. 15, PAGASA said the southwest monsoon will weaken and mostly cloudy skies are expected with scattered rain showers in the afternoon. (Lizst Torres Abello)
