Man dies, wife hurt in Quezon shooting

TIAONG, Quezon – A man was killed and his wife was wounded in a shooting incident in Sitio Ilaya Kanan, Barangay Behia, this town, on Monday morning, September 11.

Police identified the fatality as Cesar Castillo Cortez.

Investigation said Cortez and his wife, Jaina, were cutting grass in their lot when the suspect, Leo Resipeda Diamaano, suddenly appeared and shot them with an M16 Armalite rifle for no apparent reason.

Cesar sustained bullet wounds in the body and died on the spot while Jaina was wounded and taken to the hospital by her daughter.

Dimaano fled and brought along the weapon with him.

Recovered from the crime scene were five spent shells of an M16 rifle which were submitted to the forensics unit for ballistics examination.

A follow-up investigation on the incident and follow-up operation to apprehend the suspect are ongoing.
