Magnitude-4.6 quake jolts Davao Occidental


BUTUAN CITY – A magnitude-4.6 earthquake jolted Davao Occidental on Monday morning, September 11.

The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) recorded the tremor at 6:38 a.m. and its epicenter was 368 kilometers (kms) southeast of Balut Island, Sarangani, Davao Occidental.

The tremor had a depth of 50 kms, Phivolcs said.

Phivolcs does not expect any damage or injuries from the earthquake.

The Office of Civil Defense (OCD) in Southern Mindanao and Davao Occidental Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council reported no damage or injury.

A magnitude-four earthquake occurred in the area hours earlier at 3:44 a.m. and its epicenter was 111 kms southeast of Balut Island with a depth of 28 kms.

These earthquakes were tectonic in origin, caused by the movement of an active fault in the area.
