DOTr starts construction of protected bike lanes in Batangas, Rizal
The Department of Transportation (DOTr) will construct bike lanes in four areas in Batangas and Rizal, saying it is part of the 2,400-kilometer protected bike lanes it is planning to establish across the country until 2028.
DOTr Secretary Jaime Bautista said ground-breaking ceremonies were already held for the bike lane projects in Lipa and Batangas City, and in Antipolo and San Mateo in Rizal.
The total budget for the construction of bike lanes in Region IV-A is P151.7 million under the General Appropriations Act of 2022 and Bautista said the projects are expected to be completed by first quarter of 2024.
“The plan is to construct 76.70-kilometer bike lanes in the region (IV-A). The cycling community and other active transport users will benefit from expanded bike lane networks in Region IV-A,” said Bautista.
“There are several health, environment, and growth benefits of cycling in a locality and with this, we are exerting efforts in seeking additional funding for the program,” he added.
The DOTr is planning to construct 400 kilometers of bike lanes in 2023, part of the 2,400 kilometer bile lane it wants to establish across the country.
