Cloudy skies in extreme Northern Luzon; LPA trough still brings thunderstorms
The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said on Monday, Sept. 11 that there is high chance of cloudy skies with thunderstorms in extreme Northern Luzon due to the low pressure area (LPA) extension, while scattered rain showers, lightning, and thunder are expected in the rest of Luzon.

Weather specialist Obet Badrina said PAGASA is still monitoring two LPAs inside and outside the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) which both have low chance of developing into tropic cyclone.
The LPA inside the PAR was last seen 875 kilometers East Northeast of Extreme Northern Luzon. The LPA outside PAR, meanwhile, was last observed at 1,960 kilometer East Northeast of Eastern Visayas.
"Pareho nating hindi inaasahang magiging bagyo or maliit 'yung tyansang maging bagyo itong dalawang low pressure area na ito. (Both of these low pressure areas are not expected or they have low chance to develop into tropical cyclone)," Badrina said.
"Yung trough o extension nitong low pressure area na nasa loob ng Philippine area of responsibility, inaasahan ding magdadala ng maulap na kalangitan na may mga pag-ulan partikular na sa may Extreme Northern Luzon, itong bahagi ng Batanes at Babuyan Islands (The trough or extension of the low-pressure area inside the Philippine area of responsibility is expected to bring cloudy skies with rain showers particularly in the Extreme Northern Luzon in the parts of Batanes and Babuyan Islands)," he added.
High chance of cloudy skies with rain showers in mentioned areas is expected while the rest of Luzon may experience humid weather until noon and scattered rains with thunder and lightning at night.
Badrina also said that the LPA outside PAR strengthens the southwest monsoon particularly in Mindanao wherein cloudy skies with high chance of rain showers is expected specifically in Zamboanga Peninsula.
Meanwhile, hot weather condition may be expected in general in Metro Manila area while high chance of localized thunderstorms is expected in the afternoon until night for the next two to three days. (Lizst Torres Abello)
