LUCENA CITY, Quezon – A pendant saved the life of a security guard from a knife attack by an intoxicated laborer in Purok 7 Bulihan, Barangay Dalahican, here, on Saturday afternoon, September 9.
Police identified the victim as Armand Dignum, alias “Puroy, 39,” single, and a resident of Purok Anak Bagong Sinag, Barangay Cotta, this city.
Investigation said the victim was sleeping at his friend’s house at about 4:30 p.m. when the suspect Raymart de la Cruz, alias “Bay,” 40, of Purok 7 Bulihan arrived and suddenly stabbed Dignum in the chest with a kitchen knife.
The knife did not penetrate the victim’s chest and hit the pendant of his necklace.
Dignum was unhurt and sought police assistance which resulted in the arrest of the suspect and recovery of the bladed weapon.
De la Cruz was arrested by Police Staff Sgt. Norbert Buenaagua Openda and Police Patrolman Rumar Constantino Maroon of the Lucena City police Dalahican sub-station.
The suspect was taken into custody and faces attempted murder charges in relation to the Commission on Elections gun ban for the barangay elections.
Motive of the incident is yet to be determined. Follow-up probe is ongoing.
