LAOAG CITY, Ilocos Norte – President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. is expected to grace the 106th birth anniversary celebration of his father, the late President Ferdinand E. Marcos Sr., in this province on Monday, September 11.
Highlights of the event are a concelebrated Mass at the Immaculate Conception Parish in Batac City, wreath-laying at the monument of Marcos Sr. called “Daytoy ti Bannawag” (This is the Dawn), and the unveiling of a rice paddy art in front of the administration building of the State-run Mariano Marcos State University (MMSU) featuring the image of Marcos Jr.
The rice paddy art was initiated by the MMSU in collaboration with PhilRice to manifest full support to the Chief Executive's brand of governance and his vision of attaining food security and strengthening the country’s agriculture.
Earlier, the Ilocos Norte Agricultural College unveiled a rice paddy art image of Ilocos Norte Gov. Matthew Marcos Manotoc in Pasuquin, Ilocos Norte.
MMSU has also featured rice paddy art images of Marcos Sr., former First Lady Imelda R. Marcos, Dr. Santiago Obien, former MMSU president and PhilRice’s first executive director, Don Mariano Marcos, and Gen. Artemio Ricarte.
As tribute to Marcos Sr.’s commitment for the welfare of the Filipino people, Sen. Imee R. Marcos is offering free dialysis services in seven hospitals nationwide, including the Mariano Marcos Memorial Hospital and Medical Center in Batac City on Monday, September 11.
On Sunday, Sen. Marcos graced the “Marcos 106 Naruay A Panggedan” job fair in a popular mall in San Nicolas, Ilocos Norte.
On Saturday, September 9, Sen. Marcos led the Marcos 106 Literary and Arts Competition in the mall in partnership with the provincial government of Ilocos Norte in honor of Marcos Sr.
The birth anniversary celebration for Marcos Sr. started on Friday, September 8, with a free grand concert dubbed “I Love Ilocos Norte” at the Laoag City Centennial Arena. GG Vibes led by lead vocalist Gigi de Lana entertained the crowd.
Marcos Day festivities will culminate at the Laoag City Multi-Purpose Hall on September 13 with an information caravan initiated by the Department of Agriculture.
