The Office of Civil Defense (OCG) bared Sunday, Sept. 10, that it transported 264 pieces of family food packs to victims of a fire incident in Bonga, Tawi-Tawi last week.
OCD Administrator Undersecretary Ariel Nepomuceno said the family packs will be distributed by the OCD regional office in Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM) to the fire victims who were temporarily staying at the evacuation centers in Salamat Elementary School and Tawi-Tawi School of Fisheries.
“The 264 family packs from OCD-BARMM prepositioned in Zamboanga and the relief items from DSWD [Department of Social Welfare and Development]-9 are now being delivered to the fire victims in Tawi-Tawi via LC [landing craft] 298 sea craft,” Nepomuceno said.
“This is in support of the assistance coming from the DSWD. As always, rest assured that we will continue to provide assistance that [they] will be needing from us,” Nepomuceno noted.
The OCD has prepositioned relief items at the headquarters of the Armed Forces of the Philippines’ (AFP) Western Mindanao Command (WestMinCom) in Zamboanga del Sur so its regional office could quickly bring it to the people during emergencies.
Each family pack from OCD contains a family hygiene kit, sleeping kit, kitchenware, and dinnerware.
A fire struck a residential area in Brgy. Poblacion, Bongao, Tawi-Tawi last Thursday, Sept. 7, which left a total of 243 houses damaged, the OCD said.
No death was reported from the incident although two persons were injured, according to authorities.
Fire investigators were still determining the cause of the fire.
