LPA trough to bring scattered rains, thunderstorms to parts of extreme N. Luzon; 'habagat' to affect rest of PH
The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) on Sunday, Sept. 10 said the trough or extension of a low-pressure area (LPA) may bring rain showers and thunderstorms to some parts of extreme Northern Luzon.
The LPA, which was last located 895 kilometers east-northeast of extreme Northern Luzon, may bring scattered rain showers and thunderstorms to Batanes and Babuyan Islands in the next 24 hours.
Meanwhile, scattered rain showers and thunderstorms may prevail over Zamboanga Peninsula, Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao, Soccsksargen, Misamis Occidental, Lanao del Norte, and Bukidnon.
PAGASA warned of flash floods and landslides in areas affected by the trough of the LPA and habagat, as these may bring moderate to heavy rains.
The rest of the country, including Metro Manila, will be partly cloudy to cloudy with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms.
In a live weather forecast, PAGASA weather specialist Benison Estareja said the effect of the southwest monsoon may gradually strengthen due to the LPA east of extreme Northern Luzon and another outside the Philippine area of responsibility.
“Within the next 24 hours, itong LPA na nasa loob ng PAR, almost stationary habang itong low-pressure area na nasa labas ay unti-unting aangat (Within the next 24 hours, the LPA inside PAR will be almost stationary, while the low-pressure area outside PAR will slowly move up),” he said.
“Nakikita natin pagsapit po ng Tuesday (Sept. 12) hanggang sa kalagitnaan nitong linggo na ito ay unti-unting lalapit itong LPA na nasa loob dito po sa Northern Luzon so patuloy po tayong magmomonitor (We see that on Tuesday until the middle of the week, the LPA inside the PAR will move closer to Northern Luzon, so we will continuously monitor),” he added.
Based on the PAGASA’s latest analysis, the two LPAs have a low chance of developing into tropical cyclones. (Lizst Torres Abello)
