"Your role as students in terms of national security is crucial. Thus, you need to be open-minded and be part of the solution and not the problem," said Brig. Gen. Leonardo Peña, 3rd ID assistant commander, during a gathering on Saturday, September 9.

Around 2,600 college students under the National Service Training Program (NSTP) attended the lecture that aimed to lure more students to choose Reserve Officers’ Training Corps (ROTC).

Peña said the Army wanted to strengthen student’s awareness on the deceptive propaganda and deceiving schemes of New People's Army (NPA) rebels in their recruitment in to lure students to join their ranks and eventually bear arms against the government.

“Once you become graduates and professionals, you will be part of the solution. Always remember that we are not suppressing activism, we are against communist terrorism,” added Peña.
