TACLOBAN CITY – The Provincial Youth Development Office (PYDO) of Northern Samar has been recognized as outstanding in youth innovations by the United Nations Association of the Philippines (UNAP) on Thursday, August 31.
The award, conferred by UNAP during the International Youth Convention and Awards in Legazpi City, recognizes the PYDO’s exemplary performance, outstanding leadership, and exceptional contribution to youth innovations.
Jhon Allen Berbon, former Provincial Youth Development Officer-designate, said their programs like Project Tawid Kaalaman and the Disaster Management Orientation and Climate Change Adaptation Program showcased their province's commitment to bridging educational gaps, empowering youth in remote areas, and building resilience in the face of natural disasters.
“These initiatives exemplify the collaborative efforts of various sectors involved in youth development. I hope that our progressive approach to youth engagement and development will serve as a benchmark for others to follow, both within the Philippines and beyond,” he added.
Northern Samar PYDO’s contributions have earned them invitations to different events in the country such as the Youth in Governance Fair in Iloilo City last August 2022 organized by the Galing Pook Foundation and the Positive Youth Development Network.
The PYDO was featured in Galing Pook's book Youth Participation in Governance which celebrates the best practices of local government units in youth development.
They shared their innovations at the Open Government Forum last May at the De La Salle University in Manila hosted by the La Salle Institute of Governance.
