Shelter teams activated in areas hit by 'Goring, Hanna'

Lawmakers seek hike in DHSUD budget for 2021

The local shelter cluster teams of the Department of Human Settlements and Urban Development (DHSUD) have been activated in regions affected by super typhoon "Goring" and severe tropical storm "Hanna".

Through a memorandum issued by DHSUD Usec. Randy Escolango, undersecretary for disaster response, he also directed regional directors in the affected areas to be on alert for possible emergency response.

“All concerned DHSUD Regional Offices are directed to activate your respective Shelter Clusters to closely monitor your respective areas of jurisdiction and facilitate emergency response and humanitarian assistance as needed," he stated.

The activation of the teams, according to Escolango, was a proactive measure to ensure readiness of the concerned regional offices for any eventuality and to help affected residents, particularly those whose homes were destroyed due to the onslaught of Goring and Hanna.

During disasters, DHSUD local shelter teams collaborate with the Office of Civil Defense, the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council, and other government organizations to coordinate efforts to support impacted families, particularly those who have been relocated.
