Search on for man who went missing in Marikina River
The Marikina City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (DRRMO) launched a search and rescue operation for a 22-year-old man who went missing after his fishing boat sank in Marikina River on Thursday evening, Aug. 31.
According to the DRRMO, the victim reportedly attempted to fish in the river around the vicinity of the Tumana Bridge in Barangay Tumana. However, his fishing boat sank due to the strong currents and the rising water level.
The DRRMO sent a rescue truck out to look for the victim at around 4:37 p.m.
Rescue personnel were on standby underneath the Sto. Niño Bridge beside the river until 7:14 p.m. Rescue operations stopped by 7:22 p.m.
The Marikina DRRMO resumed operations at around 7:30 a.m. on Friday, Sept. 1, but rescue personnel were demobilized again at nearly 3 p.m.
The Marikina River was placed under the first alarm throughout Thursday since the water level was at 15 to 15.8 meters due to enhanced monsoon rains.
