The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said two or three tropical cyclones may form or enter the country’s area of responsibility in September.

The local names of the next tropical cyclones will be Ineng, Jenny, and Kabayan.

According to PAGASA, there are four common cyclone tracks in September: recurving toward the northeastern part of the Philippine area of responsibility or PAR, moving toward Japan or Korea, but less likely to enhance the southwest monsoon activity during passage (non-landfalling); recurving toward the northwestern part of PAR, moving toward Taiwan, and possibly enhancing the monsoon activity during passage (non-landfalling); landfalling cyclone that may cross the Northern and extreme northern Luzon areas; and landfalling cyclone that may traverse the southern parts of Luzon.

So far, eight tropical cyclones have entered the PAR this year, namely Amang, Betty, Chedeng, Dodong, Egay, Falcon, Goring, and Hanna.

PAGASA said six to eight tropical cyclones may still enter or form within the country’s area of responsibility until the end of the year.
