P96.4-M flood control project in Agusan del Norte to be finished by year’s end

BUTUAN CITY – The P96.4-million Guihao-an River flood control project in Buenavista, Agusan del Norte will be finished before the end of this year, the Department of Public Works and Highways said.

“Residents will surely be happy while local business folks will be in jubilant mood because flooding that always hamper them the past several years is no more,” DPWH-Caraga Director Engr. Pol M. delos Santos said.

Project supervision and ground works are personally led by DPWH-Agusan del Norte District Engineering Office (DEO) District Engineer (DE) Engr. Edmund V. Opinion.

In his progress report to DPWH Secretary Manuel M. Bonoan, Delos Santos  said the construction of river bank protection is almost 90 percent complete.

Delos Santos said the project includes re-channelization to improve the navigation of water and aims to mitigate the massive flooding in vulnerable areas near the Guihao-an River especially during heavy rains.

“Typhoons has been the perennial problem for the residents in this area due to overflowing of flood waters,” Delos Santos said.

He said the structure stretches 300-linear meters in Abutment A and 120-linear meters in Abutment B and will protect residents and their properties from damage caused by floods.

“All their fear and worries will surely be gone as soon as this project will be finished,” assured Delos Santos.

Provincial and municipal officials led by Gov. Ma. Angelica Rosedell M. Amante thanked DPWH officials led by Bonoan and Delos Santos for the project.

“This is a big help to our residents in Buenavista,” Amante said of the project whose budget was allocated under the General Appropriation Act (GAA) of 2023.
