2 Bulacan municipalities, city suspend classes due to heavy rains


Calumpit, Bulacan Mayor Lem Faustino announced Thursday night, Aug. 31, the suspension of classes in public schools, all levels, in the municipality on Friday, Sept. 1.

Mayor Faustino said she left it to the private schools to decide on the suspension of their classes.

"Ang tanggapan ng gobyerno po ay magpapatuloy," (Work in government offices will continue)," she said. 

On Thursday, Hagonoy Mayor Baby Manlapaz  also announced the suspension of classes in all levels, both public and private, on Sept. 1.

Mayor Manlapaz said the suspension of classes was made to ensure the safety of the students amidst the heavy rainfall brought by the southwest monsoon enhanced by Typhoon "Saola" (formerly Goring) and Typhoon "Hanna" or Haikui. 

City of Meycauayan Mayor Henry Villarica decided to extend the suspension of classes in all levels, both public and private, in the city due to the continuous rains caused by the tropical cyclones.

Villarica said the suspension was based on the recommendation of the City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council.

On Thursday night, Governor Daniel R. Fernando announced the localized suspension of work in public and private offices as well as the suspension of classes, both in public and private, as Bulacan might experience occasional heavy rains.
 

Fernando said the suspension must be decided by the local executive in the affected barangays, municipalities or cities based on the recommendation of their Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Offices.
 

He said any announcement on work and class suspension must be made before 4 a.m. on Sept. 1 while the half-day suspension of work and classes must be done before 11 a.m.
