Scattered rain showers prevail over parts of northern Luzon; warm weather persists elsewhere
The southwest monsoon, or “habagat,” may continue to affect some areas of Luzon, while warm weather may prevail elsewhere, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said on Wednesday, Aug. 9.
In the next 24 hours, cloudy skies with scattered rain showers and thunderstorms may prevail over Ilocos Norte, Ilocos Sur, Abra, and Benguet.
PAGASA warned of the possibility of flooding or landslides in these areas due to moderate to occasional heavy rains.
Meanwhile, the rest of the country may continue to experience warm weather due to partly cloudy to cloudy skies with a chance of isolated rain showers or thunderstorms possible in the afternoon or evening.
PAGASA advised the public to be cautious of possible flash floods or landslides during severe thunderstorms.
Moreover, a gale warning was raised on Wednesday due to “strong to gale-force winds” associated with the enhanced southwest monsoon.
Rough to very rough seas are expected over the coastal waters of Batanes and Babuyan Islands.
“Fishing boats and other small sea craft are advised not to venture out into the sea, while larger sea vessels are alerted against big waves,” PAGASA said.
