Kapuso actor Mikoy Morales goes daring for the first time in the movie "Tether," one of the entries in Cinemalaya 19.

At a recent press conference in Quezon City, Mikoy recalled wearing only plaster for the entire day on the set.

"Siguro may isang buong araw na plaster lang ang suot ko. As in yun lang. Ngayon ko lang sinasabi na may konti akong cringe. But when I was there, I wasn't getting that. I felt really safe. Afterthought na lang ito. Hindi ko talaga napansin na isang buong araw na pala yun," Mikoy said.

(I wore plaster all day. That's all. I'm just saying now that I cringe a little. But when I was there, I wasn't getting that. I felt really safe. It's just an afterthought. I didn't really notice that it was a whole day.)

Asked if he was really daring in "Tether," Miko answered: "Magkakaiba naman tayo ng threshold when it comes to daring. But definitely, it's something that I've never done before. Doon na ako kinakabahan kasi hindi ko alam kung ano talaga ang kinalabasan nun sa big screen at kung anong anggulo nakunan yun. Doon ako kinakabahan."

(We have different thresholds when it comes to daring. But definitely, it's something that I've never done before. That's when I'm nervous because I don't know what the outcome will be on the big screen and from what angle it's shot. I'm nervous.)

"Tether" is a story of an arrogant playboy and a timid young woman, who, after having a one-night stand, discover that any kind of pleasure or pain they inflict on themselves can be felt simultaneously by the other person.

Gian Arre, director of the film, said that "Tether" blurs the line between romance and horror.

"It explores our darkest impulses when we’re stripped of our agency and left completely vulnerable at the hands of someone else. It is a story about abuse, self-harm, suicide, sexual awakening, the subversion of gender roles, and the helplessness of becoming a victim. It explores what we’re capable of when we’re handed the lifeline of another person and asks how much is left of who we are when another person is handed the reins to our own lives, Gian said.

Aside from Mikoy, the movie "Tether" also stars Jorrybell Agoto, Breech Mae Valencia, Olivia Banela, and Albert Briones.

Mikoy said that he joined acting and intimacy workshops to prepare for the role.

“My go-to is Ate Ana Feleo, always. She briefs me and debriefs me and helps me prepare or be unprepared for something. When we started shooting for Tether that was right after doing Dick Talk, the stage play we did. I had to debrief from Dick Talk and prepare for Tether. Buti na lang nandoon si Ate Ana," the actor said.

He added: “At the same time, nag-intimacy workshops din kami with Ms. Missy Maramara, who is very helpful and almost life changing 'yung nangyari, 'yung tinuro niya sa amin. Balak kong gawin 'yun lagi kapag may gagawin akong pelikula,” pagbabahagi niya sa naganap na media conference kamakailan."

(At the same time, we also did intimacy workshops with Ms. Missy Maramara, who is very helpful. What happened, and what she taught us was life-changing. I always intend to do that when I make a movie.)

Mikoy also appears in the movie "Rookie," another Cinemalaya entry.

"Rookie" tells the story of an awkward teenager who joins the volleyball team and falls for the volleyball team captain.

After Cinemalaya, Mikoy will be busy with the new Kapuso series "Maging Sino Ka Man" starring Barbie Forteza and David Licauco. Mikoy will play the sidekick of David in the upcoming serye.

"At this point, mas hinahanap ko yung consistency. I get to do films, teleserye, in between may play at nakakapag musical score rin ako.Sana I will do enough para magtuloy-tuloy ang trabaho ko. Mamaya seasonal lang pala ito at naka-tsamba lang pala ako sa lahat ng aking ginagawa," Mikoy added.

(At this point, I'm looking for more consistency. I get to do films, and television series, in between there's a play and I'm also able to score a musical. I hope I will do enough to keep my work going. Who knows? The works I have right now are just seasonal or coincidental.)
