Manila Mayor Honey Lacuna-Pangan distributed on Wednesday, August 9, financial assistance to the victims of fire that transpired in Intramuros Manila on August 5.
Manila Department of Social Welfare (DSW) Chief Re Fugoso said that a total of 375 families and 14 individuals received P10,000 each.
The amount, she said, is meant to help the affected families rebuild their homes and recover from the incident.
In her short address, Lacuna-Pangan reminded the fire victims to prioritize saving their lives before their belongings.
The mayor also called on the residents to avoid habits that can lead to fire such as leaving appliances or lit candles unattended.
"Walang may kagustuhan na tayo ay masunugan pero katulad ng lahat ng Pilipino, tayong mga Manilenyo ay babangon at babangon, anumang sakuna ang mangyari sa atin at ang inyong pamahalaan ay inyong kaagapay upang makabangon muli (No one wants us this to happen but like all Filipinos, we Manilenyos will get up, no matter what disaster happens to us, your government will be with you to rise up again)," she assured.
"Pipilitin naming kayo ay matulungan pa sa mga susunod na araw (We will try to help you more in the coming days),” she added.
The fire lasted for five hours and gutted at least 60 houses in Tamburong, Barangay 650, Port Area in Intramuros.
The fire reached the fourth alarm and rapidly spread in the residential area where homes were made of light materials.
No one was reported injured in the incident.
