Being well-known personalities in politics and showbiz, Liza and Martin have become a duo when it comes to serving the people with their own advocacies. 

Martin showed his purpose in serving the people when he became an Undersecretary for the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) during the term of Former President Rodrigo Duterte. 

His impact extended far beyond the confines of his official duties. Martin was also known for his involvement in the Violence Against Crime and Corruption (VACC) organization, where he served as chairman.

While Liza used her craft on the creative side by becoming chairperson of the Film Development Council of the Philippines (FDCP) in 2016, the two have kept a very close relationship. From supporting each other's advocacy, even Liza's marriage with Ice Seguerra in 2014.
 
It was a big surprise for Liza's family and fans after she exchanged "I Dos" with Ice at the Stones & Flowers Barn and Wedding Retreat in Sunny Patch Lane, California, on Dec. 8, 2014. 

During an exclusive interview with the entertainment show "Startalk" in 2014, Martin shared that he was initially hesitant when Liza came out as a lesbian and announced her marriage with Ice. 

"Sa akin talaga nagulat ako, tinanong ko din si Liza, sabi ko nak hindi biro yan, pero nung nakita ko naman yung happiness ng aking anak, tapos nakita ko naman ang concern ni Aiza, at yung concern niya sa apo ko, nakikita ko yung ligaya na aking anak," Martin said. 

(I was really surprised. I also asked Liza, and I said that it was not a joke, but when I saw my daughter's happiness, then I saw Aiza's concern and her concern for my granddaughter, I saw my daughter's happiness)

Although both parents of Liza and Ice weren't present during that time, Martin, former DILG undersecretary, shared his wish for Liza and Ice for their wedding. 

"Anak alam ko na maligaya ka, one hundred one percent nakasuporta ako sayo, congratulations sa inyong dalawa ni Aiza. I hope na maging masaya at maligaya kayo habang buhay," said Martin during the interview. 

(Anak, I know you are happy. One hundred one percent I support you. Congratulations to you and Aiza. I hope you will be happy and satisfied for the rest of your life).

Earlier this month, Lizo announced that her father was diagnosed with cancer last year. Through her Facebook post, the actress showed the progress of her father's health. 

It was all good until she posted another update on her father's condition on Monday, Aug. 7. Liza's posts include a photo of her mom Marissa Bautista holding Martin's hand while in the hospital. 

"A poignant moment where my mom's hand holds not just my dad's, but also years of hurt and healing. Despite his critical condition, her firm grip and resilience whisper strength…and forgiveness. Laban papa. Mahal ka namin," Liza wrote in her post.

Martin passed away on Aug. 8, 2023, following a battle with stage 4 cancer.
