“I will stab and kill Aespa’s Winter, who is leaving the country tomorrow, with a weapon,” the Korean netizen posted, Korean media reported.
The original post was deleted but not before it quickly spread to other online communities. A fan who saw the post reported the incident to the police.
Aespa boarded their flight at Incheon International Airport Terminal 1 on Aug. 8 bound for Los Angeles. They will perform on Aug. 11 at the Outside Lands Music & Arts Festival to be held at Golden Gate Park in San Francisco.
Video of their departure showed they were surrounded by security personnel including the police as they made their way inside the airport.
SM Entertainment, Aespa’s agency, filed a complaint against the netizen and strengthened its security personnel.
“An article threatening Winter’s safety was posted in a community yesterday. As soon as we confirmed this, we filed a complaint against the person who posted the post at the police station, and asked for prompt cooperation in the investigation,” the agency said.
It added, “The police have recently received several reports, so they visited our office yesterday and today to check the security and safety conditions.”
“We have strengthened the security personnel, and when Aespa left today, they left the country safely with the cooperation of the security personnel and the airport police.” it said.
In July, a man with a weapon killed one person and injured three others near Sillim subway station in Seoul.
Last Aug. 3, suspect Choi Won-jong drove his car near a mall in Bundang, Gyeonggi province in South Korea and hit five people. After this, he went inside a department store and stabbed nine people.
