There is a slim chance that a tropical cyclone will develop in the country this week, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said on Monday, Aug. 7.
According to PAGASA weather specialist Obet Badrina, a cloud cluster east of Mindanao is being monitored, but it may not develop into a low pressure area, thus the chances of a tropical cyclone developing this week remain slim.
Most of the country is expected to have a generally fair weather due to partly cloudy to cloudy skies, apart from isolated rain showers due to localized thunderstorms.
In the next 24 hours, scattered rain showers and thunderstorms due to the southwest monsoon, or “habagat,” may continue to affect Batanes, Babuyan Islands, Ilocos Norte, Ilocos Sur, Abra, and Benguet.
PAGASA warned of possible flooding or landslides due to moderate to occasional heavy rains in these areas.
Meanwhile, the rest of the country will have partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers or localized thunderstorms.
PAGASA also advised the public to remain vigilant because of possible flooding or landslides during severe thunderstorms.
