Las Piñas provides free health services for 'National Lung Month'
In celebration of “National Lung Month,” the Las Piñas city government announced aggressive programs against tuberculosis (TB) and other non-communicable diseases.
Mayor Imelda Aguilar said the City Health Office (CHO) conducted lectures on Aug. 4 at the Golden Acres Subdivision to prevent being afflicted with TB.
Aguilar said, during the program, the CHO team conducted free chest –X-ray services and sputum examinations. Residents whose examination results were found positive for TB were referred to health centers for immediate treatment.
The CHO also offered free cholesterol checkup, blood sugar checkup and Hepa B screening.
The mayor said the CHO also gave a presentation, discussing the bad effects of smoking.
Aguilar said the CHO launched zumba exercises which will help every resident, especially senior citizens to attain a health body.
The city government was praised by the Department of Health (DOH) on January 19 for developing and implementing anti-TB initiatives which contributed to the attainment of the National Tuberculosis Control Program (NTP) targets.
In July 2022, the city government launched a project called Chest X-Ray on Wheels, which roams around the city’s 20 barangays to conduct tuberculosis screening.
Aguilar said the program enables the CHO to determine the health conditions of its residents.
She said the project will continue until the local government achieves its goal to make the city TB-free.
